I collaborated on this custom piece with the same customer who ordered the Hallway Storage piece. Like before, he knew exactly what he was looking for and provided very detailed plans that I converted to SketchUp. He did all the legwork on finding the beautiful accent pieces to give the piece its unique, one-of-a-kind look.
This piece is also made with alder, but a darker stain was applied, and it was just the right color. The piece has a base for all the heavy items, including a UPS and the internet router. It has a middle shelf that is even with the opening in the doors for the soundbar. Finally, the top drawer is actually a false face for a drop-down door with a shelf for a media player.
The doors were a bit tricky; the spindles were cut on the bandsaw with a hand-cut chamfer to create some depth. The doors have a dark burgundy speaker cloth covering the back.
It has several unique features, including the spindles, the through tenons, and the clavoses on the top door. The details made the piece take a bit longer, but the challenge was a true learning experience.
